Meinung: Friedensnobelpreis an Barack Obama

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population.

For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."

Mit Yassir Arafat, Shimon Peres, Yitzhak Rabin, Henry Kissinger, oder auch Le Duc Tho haben schon bei mehreren Anlässen Menschen den Friedensnobelpreis erhalten, die direkt an kriegerischen Auseinandersetzungen beteiligt waren und an Konflikten, deren Ende alles anderes als sicher war. Mit Barack Obama erhält ein amtierender US-Präsident den Friedensnobelpreis, der sich nicht nur zwei, wenn nicht drei (Pakistan) Kriegen gegenübersieht, einer davon völkerrechtswidrig und in denen täglich Menschen durch US-Soldaten getötet werden. Sondern auch einer Welt, die teilweise von der amerikanischen Diplomatie ignoriert und übergangen wird. 

Der Preis kann also trotz aller Begründungen um ein verändertes Klima in den internationalen Beziehungen und neuer Hoffnung für Viele, nur Ansporn und gleichzeitig Forderung sein. Forderung, sich in Afrika ernsthaft zu engagieren und nicht wirtschaftliche Interessen über Menschenrechte zu stellen. Verpflichtung, die israelische Armee und die Hamas für die nachgewiesenen Kriegsverbrechen zu verurteilen. Zwang, dem sogenannten "Krieg gegen den Terror" im Kaukasus endlich seine Legitimation abzusprechen, solange er so rücksichtslos geführt und von unilateralen Interessen gelenkt wird, wie zur Zeit.

"Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."

Hehre Worte.

Vor genau 90 Jahren, erhielt US-Präsident Woodrow Wilson den Friedensnobelpreis. Damals hieß es:

"Today, Gentlemen, as the Norwegian Parliament meets to present the Nobel Peace Prize for the first time since the World War I, it is with the conviction that the great ideal of peace, so deeply rooted in the hopes for survival of the nations, will gain fresh ground in the minds of men as a result of the recent tragic events."

Und trotzdem. Zeichen, Hoffnung, Veränderung, Aufbruchsstimmung. Ist ja nicht so, als sei all dies nicht zu gebrauchen. Im Gegenteil. Es sollte halt nicht alles bleiben.
